Standing Room Only, Almonte's own big band, is in its eleventh season.
What's a 'tea dance'?
Tea dances are afternoon dances that were popular in the 20s, 30s, and 40s, when big bands were king. They were generally held in hotels and, of course, always featured a live band.
The well known Almonte-based 14-piece big band Standing Room Only (plus vocalist) has recreated the period atmosphere of the tea dance in a series of Sunday afternoon dances in Almonte's beautiful and historic Old Town Hall. Featuring the vintage big band sounds of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and many others, the series has been a great success.
Doors open at 12:45pm. Dress is casual, but optional period dress (1920s-1940s) is encouraged.
